Capri Travel Guide: Top 10 Restaurants
It’s not often I get a special request for Cho & Tell. I mean, we’re just a month into it, after all!
But, my friend, Nina Garcia, Editor-in-Chief of Elle, sent a DM recently… asking me… would I send her my top picks for Capri?
Truth be told, I was thinking about doing a Top 10 list for Capri… it is, after all, my favorite place in the world.
But I felt a little funny about doing it because I didn’t go this year… or the year before (obviously).
Then, I thought, who cares?
There’s always next year.
And there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for Nina.
I hope you like this list, too.
Even if you're not going to Capri this year, next year, or ever... we can all dream, right?
So, here goes…
MY TOP 10 FAVORITE RESTAURANTS IN (AND AROUND) CAPRI:
1. DA GIORGIO, +39 081 837 0898: Da Giorgio has the best view of any restaurant in Capri, as far as I’m concerned. Make sure you ask for a table by the window, overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Famous for its grilled octopus, but I always order the pizza and pennette aumm aumm (eggplant pasta).

2. VILLA VERDE, +39 081 837 7024: Casual, best place to go when you’ve just arrived. Good for families and/or big groups. Pizza, pasta, zucchini blossoms, you get the picture.

3. LA FONTELINA, +39 081 837 0845: Capri’s iconic beach club, the one with the blue and white umbrellas that everyone (myself included) posts on Instagram. I love to walk down in the morning, get some sun, have lunch, more sun, then return by boat. Favorite dish is the spaghetti Fontelina. Order the sangria, too.

4. SALUMERIA DA ALDO, Marina Grande: Best sandwich shop in Capri. It’s basically a Capri-style convenience store with a deli in the back. This is where I go for Caprese and prosciutto sandwiches when I’m spending the day on the boat. It’s also my last stop before I leave the island – I literally take the sandwich on the plane with me. It’s THAT GOOD.

5. PANORAMA, +39 081 837 5290: Panorama is a bit of a walk, down a winding road, but worth it. Beautiful setting next to a lemon grove. I seem to recall having a great steak there. But you know you can’t go wrong with pasta.

6. DA PAOLINO, +39 081 837 6102: Forget about eating next to a lemon grove, Da Paolino is the famous Capri restaurant located within a lemon grove. As in, you’re dining under lemon trees. Magical setting. Some people complain about the food, but I love it. And the dessert room is epic.

7. D’AMORE, +39 081 837 0665: According to my friend, Amedeo Scognamiglio (the de facto “Mayor of Capri”), D’Amore is the best restaurant of the 2021 summer season. Young chef redefining Neapolitan classic dishes in a contemporary way. The classic Caprese salad becomes “the wrong Caprese,” where the tomatoes and basil are stuffed inside the mozzarella. Amedeo’s favorite dessert is the “summer panettone.”

8. AURORA, +39 081 837 0181: No Capri restaurant list is complete without Aurora. The see-and-be-seen restaurant on the island. A must stop for A-list celebrities. Known as the best pizza in Capri. Mia, the owner, is wonderful. She knows half of New York.
Aurora.
9. LO SCOGLIO, +39 081 808 1026: About 40 minutes by boat from Capri, Lo Scoglio is located on Nerano, considered the pearl of the Amalfi Coast. Famous for its zucchini pasta. Stanley Tucci featured Lo Scoglio at the end of the first episode of his CNN special series, Searching for Italy.

10. CONCA DEL SOGNO, +39 081 808 1036: Known simply as “Conca,” this picturesque seaside restaurant is also located on Nerano. The zucchini pasta is heavenly as is the whole fish baked in sea salt.

Other notable spots:
· Go to Hotel Caesar Augustus on Anacapri for sunset cocktails.
· Stop by Buonocore Gelateria Pasticceria for Caprilu cookies (this is the famous gelateria with the long lines, next to Hotel La Palma).
· Get yourself an invite to Hotel La Scalinatella for lunch (for hotel guests and their guests only) – best vongole in the world!
· Go to the drink stand near the funicular (just outside the Prada store) and get the frozen lemonade (limone). It’s my first stop when I arrive!
I’m really missing Capri right about now. Top 10 Favorite Shops in Capri is next.
Hope to see you at La Fontelina next summer!
