Top 10 Accessories For Your 2021 Summer
Whether it's a bag, pendant, or signature shoe, accessories can make or break any look. Here are 10 that will never do you wrong.
My friends call me a shopping savant… whenever there’s a dress or bag or shoe they don’t recognize, they screen grab it, send it to me and MOST of the time, I can identify the designer.
What can I say? It’s a gift. I’m not proud of it… but, well, it’s the truth.
I love fashion. Always have, always will.
Dresses are great… I love the ease of stepping into one, zipping it up… et voilà… you’re put together and ready to go.
Almost.
You’re not leaving barefoot, are you? Or without a bag? Or maybe some jewelry?
Didn’t think so.
Don’t fret… I can help.
Here are my TOP 10 ACCESSORIES FOR YOUR 2021 SUMMER:
1. RIANNA + NINA BONBON BAG, €1580. – This spring, I hosted a virtual trunk show for Berlin-based designers, Rianna and Nina. They make the most beautiful kaftans, kimonos, and dresses — many of them one of a kind, many made from vintage scarves. As a thank you, they sent me a beautiful bonbon bag – this one is made from a vintage Givenchy scarf.
2. GUCCI GG MULTICOLOR PLATFORM SANDAL, $650. – This summer, Gucci opened an outpost in East Hampton and, let’s just say, it was love at first sight with these pink slides. I’ll be honest, they hurt my feet the first time I wore them, but I powered through and now I put them on with everything from sweats to jumpsuits to dresses, day to night.
3. JANE WIN LOVE FULL-HEART PENDANT, $298. – I used to be jewelry snob – meaning, I would only wear real jewelry. Then, Memorial Day weekend, I went into Kirna Zabête in East Hampton and was drawn to this 14k gold plated Jane Win pendant and chain. I had to have it. Now, I layer it with other necklaces and wear it almost every time I go out.
4. LARKSPUR & HAWK VALENTINA “I LOVE NY” BUTTON NECKLACE, $750. – While we’re talking about hearts, Emily Satloff, the designer of Larkspur & Hawk, created this charming heart collection during the pandemic as a love letter to New York City. She kindly sent me this necklace as a gift.
5. MONICA RICH KOSANN DOROTHY MEDALLION ON A GOLD CHAIN, $1690. – Talk about a pendant with meaning – this one by my friend, Monica Rich Kosann, is named for Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz — inscribed are the words, “You had the power all along, my dear” — the famous phrase Glinda, The Good Witch, uttered to Dorothy at the end of the film. And, somehow, I do feel empowered when I wear this!
6. CVC STONES NUAGE ($3400) AND ZÈBRE ($3200) NECKLACES – CVC Stones is the passion project (it’s also a real business) of my friend, Charlie de Viel Castel – who happens to be married to one of the chicest women on the planet, Vanessa Traina. Each CVC Stones piece is one of a kind. I wear these necklaces ALL. THE. TIME.
7. ARIZONA LOVE TREKKY PLATFORM BLACK BANDANA, €135 – There is no single pair of shoes that I wear more than these. They’re like chic Tevas, give me height and are more comfortable than house slippers. I wore them through the early days of the pandemic and can’t quit them now. In the summer, they look cute with a dress.
8. BOTTEGA VENETA DOUBLE KNOT BAG, $1250. – Let me just say, I own this bag in both black and almond and alternate between the two every time I go out to dinner. EVERY. TIME. It’s deceptively roomy and you can wear it on your shoulder, too.
9. AMEDEO WISE MONKEYS IN CAPRI NECKLACE, $11,500. – My dear friend, Amedeo Scognamiglio, singlehandedly made cameos chic for the modern world. His family has been making them for generations. This signature three monkeys design was carved in turquoise (traditionally used in Italian jewelry because of its Mediterranean color). The idea? “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil” – what happens in Capri stays in Capri!
*For what it’s worth, Amedeo is the reason why I started vacationing in Capri more than a decade ago.
10. SIDNEY GARBER TALL SCRIBBLE RING, $19,600. – I’ll be honest… I don’t own this ring… but, boy, do I want it. I’ve been eyeing this beauty for YEARS. And someday, I’ll give in to my impulses. My friend, Brooke Garber Neidich, really knows how to make exquisite, timeless jewelry. She also gives away all of her profits to charity. Reason enough to buy!
