Top 10 Hamptons Farm Stands and Food Stores, 2021 Edition
Your go-to places for peaches, lobster salad, blueberry pie... my favorite paninis, summer rolls and veggie stir-fry... plus, Paris in the Hamptons!
In case you hadn’t noticed, I love the Hamptons. And I’ve quickly come to love writing about the Hamptons.
In the past few weeks, I’ve written Hamptons Top 10 Lists on Shops and Restaurants… (I hope they were helpful) …
The thing is, in the summer months, the restaurants are overcrowded… the traffic is terrible… and going out – especially on the weekends -- can be a big, fat pain.
The biggest luxury is being able to eat at home.
And, to do that, you need to stock up on all the yummiest foods.
That’s where this list comes in…
Here are my Top 10 Hamptons Farm Stands and Food Stores:
1. PIKE FARMS, 82 Sagg Main St, Sagaponack: My #1 farm stand in the Hamptons. A favorite of Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Ina Garten and Sybille Van Kempen of Loaves & Fishes. THE BEST PLACE to go for fresh produce -- especially corn, peaches, and tomatoes in August.
2. HALSEY FARM & NURSERY, INC., 513 Deerfield Rd, Water Mill: Eric Ripert’s favorite. All the fresh vegetables and flowers are grown on the 82 acres that surround this wonderful farm stand. I love the dill pickles. I buy them by the case.
3. AMBER WAVES FARM, 367 Main St, Amagansett: Great produce, vegan crackers, and Grab & Go items, like my favorite summer rolls with sesame dressing – the perfect healthy snack or lunch.
4. PROVISIONS NATURAL FOODS MARKET, Corner of Bay and Division Streets, Sag Harbor; 760 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill: The place to go for all the obscure food items you can’t find anywhere else. The casual café is amazing. My friends and I are all obsessed with the vegetable stir-fry over brown rice. I get mine with grilled chicken, don’t forget the hot sauce.
5. CAVANIOLA’S GOURMET CHEESE SHOP, 898 Division St, Sag Harbor; 8 Amagansett Sq, Amagansett: If you’re buying cheese out East, Cavaniola’s is IT. A world class selection of imported and domestic cheese, charcuterie, and other specialty items. I pop in for the sopressata panini.
6. MARIE EIFFEL MARKET, 184 N Ferry Rd, Shelter Island: I’m a total Francophile so it’s no surprise this charming French market and café is one of my favorites. This is where I go for Guérande Fleur de Sel (the best of the best French sea salt). I also love to order the Parisian sandwich, sit outside, close my eyes, and pretend I’m in Paris.
7. LOAVES & FISHES FOODSTORE, 50 Sagg Main St, Sagaponack: A Hamptons institution for more than 40 years. Famous for its $100 per pound lobster salad. I love the deviled eggs, pasta salad with dill pickles, and blueberry pie. Call ahead to reserve a pie, otherwise you’ll be out of luck after 11am.
8. CARISSA’S THE BAKERY, 221 Pantigo Rd, East Hampton; 68 Newtown Ln, East Hampton; 3 Bay St, Sag Harbor (Coming Soon): A relative newcomer to the Hamptons, Carissa Waechter has quickly made a name for herself as someone who makes quality breads and cakes. People clamor for the Salty Sour Pickled Rye. You’ll often find Ina Garten sitting at a corner table for breakfast at the Pantigo location.
9. MIKE’S AMAGANSETT SEAFOOD, 517 Montauk Hwy, Amagansett: I just discovered Mike’s this summer, but let me tell you: Mike’s lobster salad might be the very best on the East End. Get a pound of it, go next door to IGA and get some Martin’s long potato rolls, fresh corn on the cob and you have yourself a meal.
10. ROUND SWAMP FARM, 184 Three Mile Harbor Rd, East Hampton; 97 School St, Bridgehampton; 71 S Elmwood Ave, Montauk: My go-to place for prepared foods. So many favorites I don’t know where to start -- chicken salad, gazpacho, kale hummus, roasted cauliflower salad, flatbread pizza, spicy Thai noodles, lasagna with meat sauce, Mexican layer dip, grilled lime chicken… the list goes on and on and on.
Enjoy your weekend! x A
